Sir David Bell

Sir David Bell was born in the United Kingdom. He is chairman of the Financial Times Group and executive director of Pearson plc., a British media company with global interests in information, education and consumer publishing. As director of Pearson, Bell is responsible for employees at Pearson's information companies, which include the Financial Times, Penguin Group and Pearson Education. Educated at Cambridge University and the University of Pennsylvania, he joined the Oxford Mail and Times as a trainee journalist, leaving two years later to join the Financial Times Foreign Desk. In 1978, he helped launch the International Edition. In 1985, he became managing editor and was appointed chief executive of the Financial Times Group in 1993. Bell also serves as chair of the International Youth Foundation.
