Ambassador Mbikusita-Lewanika, Ph.D., was born in Zambia and is Zambia's former ambassador to the United States of America, Brussels and the European Union. From 1980 to 1990, she worked with UNICEF in senior leadership roles across Africa. Mbikusita-Lewanika served in the Zambian Parliament for 10 years, starting in 1991. In 1995, she led a United Nations delegation to Burundi and Rwanda to assess the effects of the genocide. Mbikusita-Lewanika is actively engaged with Zambian and international NGOs and holds a doctorate in early childhood and primary education from New York University. She was a founding board member of the International Youth Foundation and now serves as an ambassador for the Global 4H movement.
